The Komodo dragon is the largest living lizard. It can grow up to three meters long and weigh up to 150 kilograms. 2400 copies are expected in the warehouse. The Komodo dragon lives on only five of Indonesia’s approximately 17,500 islands. It bites its prey, which eventually dies from infectious or poisonous saliva. With an excellent sense of smell, the lizard finds a dead animal and eats it. You can read this in many places. However, scientists debate whether the cause of death is infectious saliva or poison. There are only a few of this species left on Sunda Island Flores. Most of them live on Komodo and Rinca, the main islands of Komodo National Park, as well as on the small islands of Gili Motang and Gili Dasami. The Komodo dragon is often referred to as the “last surviving dinosaur”. However, it only existed for four to five million years, and the last dinosaurs died out around 65 million years ago. The film crew, consisting of a biologist and a reptile specialist, has known Komodo National Park and its lizards for over 20 years. On their first trip, they met and befriended ranger David Hau. Since then, they visit him regularly to explore the islands together. Over the years, they’ve experienced things that don’t always match the image that’s commonly spread about the Komodo dragon. This time they were able to film their experiences and the changes that took place in the national park over the years. In Asia, rare large animals are on the verge of extinction.
