What is the Thonon Diet?

The Thonon diet is one of the lightning diets that promises rapid weight loss within a very short time. With this diet method you should be able to lose ten kilograms in 14 days. In order for this to succeed, the diet relies on an extremely low-calorie diet, which consists mainly of protein-rich foods and vegetables.

The diet is said to have originated in the French spa town of Thonon-les-Bains. Hence the name Thonon diet. It is said to have been developed there in a hospital to help overweight people with a disease quickly and effectively lose weight.

This is how the Thonon diet works

The diet consists of two phases: the weight loss phase and the stabilization phase. During the weight loss phase, a maximum of between 600 and 800 calories are consumed daily over a period of two weeks. After the 14 days, the stabilization phase follows, in which the daily calorie intake is increased to a maximum of 1,500 calories. How long the stabilization phase lasts depends on how much weight you have lost in the two weeks before. One week is recommended per kilo lost. If you lose ten kilograms, the stabilization phase lasts ten weeks.

What can you eat and what not?

Similar to the Keto Diets are largely on the Thonon diet carbohydrates and fats avoided. Foods that contain sugar or a lot of fat are taboo. Instead, protein-rich foods and vegetables are on the diet plan. Fruit, small amounts of bread or dairy products are also allowed to a certain extent.

When it comes to protein-rich foods, the Thonon diet relies primarily on eggs, fish and meat. Hard-boiled eggs, grilled chicken, poached fish, steaks or cooked ham are among the recommended sources of protein that can end up on the plate almost every day. But also vegetarian can do the Thonon diet. You simply replace the animal products meatless alternatives such as tofu or other protein-rich plant foods such as lentils or chickpeas. Meals are supplemented daily with fresh vegetables such as salad, tomatoes or carrots. These may occasionally even be eaten at will.

According to the Thonon diet plan, however, drinks should be completely calorie-free. Therefore only water is allowed Coffee or tea – unsweetened, of course.

Lose ten pounds with a nutrition plan

The Thonon diet requires a lot of discipline and perseverance – especially in the first two weeks with a limited daily requirement of 600 to 800 calories. In order for the 14-day weight loss phase to actually succeed, a special nutrition plan is required. Books on the Thonon diet offer support. These often contain an exact list of all the meals that you are allowed to eat in the first 14 days. They also offer many recipe suggestions for dishes that are suitable for the stabilization phase. This saves you from having to count the recommended calories every day.

A sample day of the Thonon diet

The Thonon diet allows three meals a day. An example day for the weight loss phase can look like this:

  • Breakfast: coffee or tea, without sugar

  • Lunch: two boiled eggs and unsalted, stewed Spinach

  • Dinner: a large grilled steak and salad

Effectiveness of the Thonon diet

If you want to lose a few kilos in a short time and stick to the diet plan, you will achieve a visible effect with the Thonon diet. Because of the extremely low number of calories that you can eat every day, you will definitely lose weight. As with many lightning diets, the success in losing weight is more due to the breakdown of muscle mass and the loss of water. Also a Jojo Effect cannot be ruled out. The stabilization phase of the Thonon diet is intended to prevent this. But if you then fall back into old eating patterns, you will automatically gain weight again.
