While the BMI (Mody Mass Index) does not really make sense as a measure in all areas of nutrition, it has considerable value when it comes to losing weight properly. BMI is weight in relation to height. This is a way of saying how much a person’s weight is appropriate for their height.
Everything revolves around the BMI
Researchers at the University of Toronto have dealt with exactly this relation and related it to the appearance of the face, as reported by freundin.de. So the specific question for the research was: How much weight do I have to lose to show it on my face?
To see the overall weight loss on your face, you have to lower your BMI by 1.33 points, say the researchers. For example, for a woman who is 1.62 meters tall, this means losing 3.6 kilograms of weight.
In overweight people, the fat on the face settles mainly on the cheeks, which makes them appear fatter to other people. So weight loss is first reflected on the face. But even if you have the ambition to lose weight until others notice it, you always have to make sure that your BMI is in a healthy range. This is between 18.5 and 24.9. Anything below that would also be unhealthy.
First the face, then the belly
The researchers found that most people first see a change in weight on their face. Only then is the weight loss noticeable under the shirt. Unfortunately, it is not only possible to lose weight specifically on the face. There are no strong muscles there that would allow local fat burning.
So when it comes to perception, it’s “face to stomach”, but in the weight loss process, “stomach to face” still applies. Healthy nutrition, fresh air and a little exercise are the not really surprising magic words here.
Losing weight quickly doesn’t help
If you want to lose weight, you have to change your diet. However, the University of Toronto researchers specifically pointed out that that one should not lose weight in an unhealthy way.
So don’t overdo it! The face decreases in the same proportion as the rest of the body. So don’t starve yourself to have a skinny face. This not only promotes the yo-yo effect, but also a generally unhealthy approach to the rest of the body.
Losing weight in a targeted manner can hardly be influenced. Therefore, you should always lose weight with an eye on the BMI to keep your body healthy in the long term.
