It doesn’t always have to be vanilla crescents! Try these flavorful alternatives!

Vanilla here, vanilla there – the pleasant scent of this unique spice wafts towards us everywhere, be it from the scented candle, at the Christmas market or from the home-baked cookies, including the ever-popular vanilla crescents. You finally want to replace or supplement these with other delicacies, but love their soft and melt-in-your-mouth texture? No problem, because there are wonderful alternatives with more unusual flavors that you can (and should) try and we show you some of the best Kipferl recipes to bake at home.

Bake marzipan croissants without flour and butter

Vanilla isn’t the only Christmas flavor. Marzipan is also one of the delicacies at Christmas time. That’s why you should definitely plan these unique marzipan cookies as soon as you declare the Christmas bakery open this year. The marzipan will get through a little almonds and almond oil added.

For 40 pieces:

  • 500 g Rohmarzipan
  • 250 grams of sugar
  • 2 egg whites
  • ½ bottle of bitter almond aroma (oil)
  • 100 g flaked almonds
  • optional couverture for decoration

Line a baking tray with parchment paper and preheat the oven to 175 degrees top and bottom heat. Mix all the ingredients into a cookie dough. Use your hands or the hand mixer with dough hook for this. Then you can shape the dough into several rolls (about 7 cm long). This task is easier with moistened hands as the dough is quite sticky. Roll the rolls over the flaked almonds and shape them into croissants.

Bake the cookies with marzipan for 12 to 15 minutes, checking frequently as they can get too dark very quickly. In the end, only the tips of the croissants should be slightly golden brown – then they are just right. If you like, you can melt the couverture in a water bath after the treats have cooled down and dip in the tips of the marzipan croissants.

Nut biscuits are also one of the classics of the Advent season and if they are also homemade, they taste even better (and they always have something to serve when your girlfriend spontaneously comes by for a coffee). Can’t decide between hazelnut cookies, walnut croissants and almonds? Well, then simply combine everything – without any flour and butter! Perfect if you are looking for gluten-free croissant recipes.

Prepare the nut croissant recipe the night before.

For 60 pieces:

  • 2 medium eggs
  • 200 grams of powdered sugar
  • 150 g flaked almonds
  • 200 g each of chopped walnuts, hazelnuts and almonds

For the nut crescents, beat the egg white and sugar until fluffy, stir in the chopped nuts, cover the bowl with cling film and place the dough in the fridge overnight.

Preheat the oven to 200 degrees top and bottom heat and line two baking trays with baking paper (or work in two drawers with one tray each). Scatter the flaked almonds on the work surface, knead the dough well again and form it into a long roll, which you then cut into 10 cm pieces. Then roll these over the flaked almonds to cover them from all sides and shape them into croissants. Bake them for about 10 minutes without letting them out of your sight for too long.

Nougat-Kipferl Recipe – Bake cookies with Nutella during the Advent season
