Recipe for roasted almonds like from the fair

200 grams of almonds (unpeeled)
100 200 grams of sugar
50 to 100 milliliters of water
vanilla or vanilla sugar
ginger bread spice

Add the water, sugar, and spices to the still-cold pan and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. When the sugar water is boiling, add the almonds and simmer over medium heat until the water has evaporated. The sugar becomes liquid, dark, and caramel strands form. After a while, the sugar will become crumbly and wrap around the almonds. You don’t want the sugar to burn though, so keep stirring. When the sugar sticks to the almonds again, remove the pan from the heat and spread the almonds on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and leave to cool. If you want to save yourself the hassle, buy roasted almonds at the fair.

The Ferris wheel

The oldest proven idea of the Ferris wheel comes from Bulgaria. This is reported by the English traveler Peter Mundy. In 1620 in Philippopolis (now Plovdiv) he saw children who had small seats attached to the circumference of a large wheel to amuse themselves by turning it. Similar trips were also sighted in England in the 17th century. In 1802, the Dutchman Gijsbert van Laar published a crankshaft-driven Ferris wheel in his garden book »Magazine van Tuin Sieraaden«.

The world’s first modern Ferris wheel was built by Pittsburgh railroad and bridge engineer George Washington Gale Ferris for the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair. The organizers were looking for something original, daring and unique (“original, daring and unique”) that would overshadow the Eiffel Tower that was built for the 1889 World Exhibition in Paris. Ferris’ proposal was initially rejected as unrealistic. However, his idea was more suitable than any other to depict the engineering, the economic success and the power of the USA, so that he was ultimately able to convince the jury.

break dance

A breakdance consists of a 7-degree inclined, usually 12 to 18 square or round turntable, on which 4 or 6 gondola crosses are located. The typical gear noises of the turntable drive, which are expressed as howling or singing, are characteristic, especially when accelerating and braking. Due to the design, they stem from the gear ratios used – an electric motor is connected to the transmission via a toothed belt. Some of the systems have already been converted to quieter drives. 4 gondolas are attached to the gondola crosses, in which the passengers can find space. The turntable and the gondola crosses are driven by electric motors and the gondolas are rotated as a result.
