During the Advent season, they should not be missing from any Christmas market: roasted almonds. But they are also a delicious snack. Nina Thöne from the hr4 team tried a variant with vanilla sugar. This gives the almonds a special taste
- 250 g whole almonds (unpeeled)
- 220 grams of white sugar
- 2 packets of vanilla sugar
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
- about 100 ml of water
Mix together the regular sugar and the vanilla sugar. Then heat the almonds with half the sugar, the cinnamon and the water in a deep pan. As the water begins to evaporate, the almonds will begin to caramelize. Now you have to stir vigorously over medium heat so that all the almonds get a nice layer of sugar.
If after a few minutes the water has completely evaporated and the almonds are dry again, add the second half of the sugar and stir until it has dissolved. Finally, tip the almonds onto a baking sheet lined with baking paper and let them cool. After that, the only thing left to say is: Have fun snacking!
