The Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK) advises one “living stock” for ten days and Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) also recommends it. “Living stock” means you need to regularly use up and replace the food you store. So you need simple and of course delicious recipes that you can cook from your emergency supplies and there is plenty. As long as you can also buy fresh ingredients, the recipes are of course more varied, but it also tastes really good “only” with emergency supplies. Ingredients from the emergency supply:

  • 1 onion
  • 1 to 2 cloves of garlic
  • 2 bis 3 carrots (250 g)
  • 5 tbsp cooking oil (alternative fresh ingredient: butter)
  • 5-6 tbsp tomato paste
  • Salt, oregano, some sugar

Recipe: How to prepare the spicy carrot and tomato sauce from your emergency supplies

  1. Peel and dice the onions and mince the garlic.
  2. Grate the carrots or chop them in the blender.
  3. Heat the oil in a pan and sauté the carrots along with the onion, garlic, the tomato paste and the spices until everything is nice and soft.
  4. Season well with the spicy carrot and tomato sauce.
