The Christmas season is approaching, the first Advent is already being celebrated at the weekend – and with it comes the time for culinary delights. Not only on the holidays, but also on the Sundays in Advent, many families serve a delicious roast with red cabbage and potatoes. There’s just one problem: there’s always leftovers at the end! What to do? This delicious recipe is perfect for processing the side dishes – and tastes heavenly!

So there is absolutely nothing left over – and after the banquet, this way of using leftovers is a real culinary highlight the day after. The best thing about this recipe is that you don’t need to specify quantities, because what’s left is used here!

Red cabbage and potatoes are joined by just some minced meat, onion, sour cream and cheese – everything is layered in a casserole dish and deliciously baked in the oven. Be sure to try the recipe, you will love it!

Ingredients for casserole with red cabbage, potatoes and minced meat

You need: leftover red cabbage and potatoes, 500 grams of mixed minced meat, 1 onion, 2 cups of sour cream, 150 grams of grated cheese (eg Gouda), salt, pepper

Here’s how it works: Peel and finely chop the onion. Heat some oil in a pan, sauté the diced onions in it and then add the minced meat. Fry until crumbly. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees circulating air.

Now take a casserole dish. First add a layer of red cabbage (half the leftovers), then chop the boiled potatoes and spread half of them over the red cabbage. Spread half of the ground beef mixture on top. Repeat the whole process: first place a layer of red cabbage, then the remaining potatoes, then the remaining minced meat on top of the casserole.

Finally, stir the sour cream until smooth and spread over the casserole. Sprinkle with the grated cheese and bake in the oven for about 30 minutes until the casserole is heated through and the cheese is golden brown.

Tin Tip: You can also do without the grated cheese and instead put a layer of crumbled feta cheese in the middle of the casserole, i.e. between the first layer of minced meat and the second layer of red cabbage. Tastes just as delicious – especially for all hobby cooks who love feta cheese. Enjoy your meal!
